What to do outside of the Course:

  • Have a swim at nearby "Stoney Beach"
  • Enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry at “Pie in the Sky” with fellow students on a lazy Sunday morning.
  • Take a walk and enjoy the setting sun (a rare place on the East Coast where you can see it set over the water!)
  • Attend the stimulating Friday Evening Lectures as well as many other seminars that take place in the summer at the Marine Biological Laboratory. The Physiology Course hosts a cocktail party before the Friday night lecture.
  • Enjoy a barbeque at Clare's and Dyche's house.
  • Swim with luminescent dinoflagellates in the evening!
  • Browse through the MBL Library, a treasure of modern and classical books and journals.
  • Cast a line off the nearby dock and catch a striped bass.
  • Have a beer with the lecturer or students at the Capt. Kidd
  • Play on the Physiology Course softball team
  • Enjoy a game of soccer
  • Have fun on our all-day picnic and lobster bash at Tarpaulin Cove (by chartered boat)
  • Take the Woods Hole ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, rent a bike, and explore the island
  • Go kayaking in the beautiful harbor
  • Go for a run or a bike ride on the scenic coastal road around the Nobuska lighthouse
  • Enjoy a New England Fourth of July 4 and participate in the parade with the Physiology Course.
  • Tennis courts are nearby
  • The Cape Cod National Seashore is not far away.
  • Hob nob with the many scientists who come to the MBL to do summer research
