Making Edits to an existing file.

Editing an existing record consists of the following steps

The first steps are easy. We can use the search form and the results file to search and view the results. Then we will redirect the detail page from the detail.htm page to a new edit.htm page. We will create this now.

Drag this form to a new blank document. You can find it under the "RECORD DETAIL (EDITABLE) section of the Filemaker Form Library as "-required tags."

Add the required database information

From the same page drag over the "-Edit" button from the "Edit Record" section.

Adding Fields to the Edit Form.

Drag input fields to your new document. You can find it under the "RECORD DETAIL (EDITABLE) section of the Filemaker Form Library as "-Displaying record data." We will load the record data into simple text fields.

The name of the field needs to be added twice for each field added to the edit form. The object editor for the text field requires the field name so that Filemaker knows which field to place this form data into. The field itself should show the current database values so that you know what to change. This is done by putting the database values into the text field itself. (See below)
