Faculty Profile:  Suzanne Bakken, RN, DNSc, FAAN



Suzanne Bakken, RN, DNSc, FAAN, is Alumni Professor of Nursing and Professor of Medical Informatics at Columbia University.  Her research interests are at the intersection of informatics and outcomes research. Recent NIH-funded research projects have focused on informatics building blocks for evidence-based practice with a particular emphasis on terminology and standardized outcome measures.  She serves as Director of the NIH-funded Research Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved and of Informatics for Evidence-based Practice, a HRSA funded Nurse Practitioner subspecialty.  Dr. Bakken is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and American College of Medical Informatics.  She has spoken on informatics-related topics internationally and has published extensively.

She is a member of the Board of Directors, American Medical Informatics Association; Institute of Medicine Committee on Patient Safety Data Standards; SNOMED Editorial Board; Clinical LOINC Committee, and Health Level 7.
